A strong flatform

There is a lot of flatfoam in this world, but the strongest one is in Tanzania, they call it Children’s Council

simply children’s council is group of children is based on children participation on behalf of other children  by expressing  their views on children issues particularly on child protection and child rights through meeting from the ward level to National level.

Election of children council

Election of Ward Children Council follows a JCURT (junior council of United Republic of Tanzania) guideline of Children Council as well as children agreement. More than 200 children from the ward are invited to the general meeting by Ward Executive Officer in collaboration with children and NGOs if there is. All children aged 5-17 years old are involved in regard of gender, disabled, orphans, young girl mothers, children in and out of school, street children and children with HIV/AIDS.

    The elections facilitated by children elections committee and enable other children to understand the policy and guidelines of election. Always they elect 28 children to formulate Ward Children council, 10 female and 10 male while 4 males and 4 females from marginalized groups. After that they elected members of Ward Children Council elect ward representative towards district, then regional representatives up to the national level.

   Also they have Roles in Children council

  • To collect and deal with views and opinions of all children.
  • To make sure all children get clear information on children issues
  • To protect and defend a child particularly in his/her security, participation and his or her rights.
  • To sensitize and create awareness to parents, guardians, and other children on child rights and child responsibilities.
  • To make follow up of plan, rules and policy from the hamlet up to National level on children issues.
  • To raise children’s voices and express their views before, during and after decision making through sub village/streats to National meeting.
  • To make sure there is good collaboration between children and Government, mass media, youth groups, community groups and Non Governmental Organizations
  • To participate on children plans of follow up the strategic implementation ‘ A world Fit for Children”
